HISTORICAL FACTS ABOUT CHELSEA

Chelsea has been known by three names like Chelcheya, Chelched and Chelchythe.

The origin is disputed. About AD 787 Offa, King of the Mercians held a Synod, so a church was probably built around that time. History tells us that noble and Royal personalities inhabited the Chelsea area. Famous people like Sir Thomas More who owned a country house, Duke of Norfolk, The Earl of Shrewsbury and Henry VIII resided in Chelsea. As a child Queen Elizabeth I lived there.
